The Second NTNU English Debate Competition
“Free Debate Consultation Service”
Purpose: A free consultation service for contestants will be provided before the competition in order to help participants to better understand English policy debate, to improve their performance, and to provide an opportunity for senior English majors to put into practice what they have learned in English Debate class.
Consulters: Participants from NTNU, MCU and NTUST
Consultants: Senior-year students from NTNU English Department who enroll in English Debate course.
Consulting Venue: NTNU English Chat Room
Consulting Time: Start from 4/25 to 5/20, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from six to seven o’clock p.m. Maximum will be one hour for each consultation.

Content:
Type I: General principles of English policy debate, including
1. Stock issues for policy debate
2. Affirmative and negative strategies
3. Guidelines and techniques of cross-examination
4. Debate language
5. Types and use of evidence and reasoning
6. Common fallacies
Type II: Case feedback and suggestions, including
1. Speeches that are already written by debaters
2. Cross-examination questions that are already constructed by debaters
3. Delivery style and manners

1. Consulters should familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the debate competition prior to their use of the consultation service.
2. To ensure a fair competition, consultants will not involve in construction of arguments or collection of evidence.
